switching GUI's - Enlightenment to KDE

I have been working with switching my desktop environment from KDE to Enlightenment. I have established that I am not ready to be in the latter yet, but I can not figure out how to make KDE (or any other for that matter) my default x window ("startx")

I hope I have explained this problem okay. Please forgive if this issue is in the MAN but there is soo much there that it can get confusing.

Thanks in advance.

What distro are you running?
On Mandrake 8.0 the Mandrake Control Center gives the options of what windows manager to autologin with. Simply a drop-down list of the managers installed.
Or use linuxconf from a shell, there may be something in there too.

You can edit the xinitrc file that I think is in /usr/X11R6/lib/X/xinit/ but I don't have a Linux system to check. That will change the default the windowing manager for all users. Alternatively you can edit/create a .xinitrc file in your homedir that specifies your Windowing manager, have a look at the system wide xinitrc file and use that as a basis for your own .xinitrc file.

HTH but there is bound to be a nice graphical way to do it that must be nicer.

this really depends a lot on your distro, and how you choose your window manager. in kdm, the windowmanager is a enviromental variable set by the login manager and executed by a script in your home directory. for xdm or command line, it depends on how your .profile or .bash sets the WINDOWMANAGER variable.

from the command line, it would just be "startx enlightenment" or "startx kde", whichever you happen to choose.
