Question

Dear all,
I am trying to set up my ADAPTEC SCSI card to use my CDR. However, I am having problems to have this card recognized by Mandrake 7.2. But it works well under Windows 95/98.

I have tried the following during the mandrake 7.2 (SCSI option)install:
aha152x 0x140,10,7,1,1
and also
aha152x 0x140,9,7,0,0

Using the second argument I can also hear the CD-R moving but I have an installation error message after Mandrake tries to probe the device.

My card seems is an ADAPTEC AVA-1502E

The way an adapter works with one operating system successfully suggests that you have the correct driver loaded and the correct libraries loaded that the device needs and more importantly the correct settings for said device. Now since it works in Microsoft Windows and the hardware obviously is working properly, the issue now lies with the driver, support files and the settings. The correct aic driver must be loaded and also the settings for the driver must NOT be what you have been using. This link > http://www.tldp.org/HOWTO/HOWTO-INDE...re.html#HWSCSI has many HOWTO's for SCSI. The settings listed there are for different kernels but the settings for the adapter are in Windows. Open the Device Manager and find out what port address and other parameters. I could retype the entire HOWTO that I'm reading from Mandrake but here is the link so http://mandrake.vmlinuz.ca/bin/view/Main/ScsiCards which goes into detail as to how to obtain the spec's from Microsoft Windows 95 or 98 as well.

If this still doesn't work you may need an updated SCSI driver. Let us know what happens.
