I tried to get lilo working again(because it was fscked up)
but I did a mistake... I did
"/sbin/lilo -b /dev/hda1" ( I think thats what screwed my windoz partition)
so now I can't boot in windows...
it says its VFAT..
is there anything I can do except re installing windows?
thanks

if u havent got a backup of the MBR do fdisk /mbr from a dos command prompt, thatll restore the dos boot loader.

next time try to use Lilo with the parameter
-s /boot/bootsect.bak
itll make a copy of the bootsector it writes to before mutilating it :-]

it did not work...

problem is with: /sbin/lilo -b /dev/hda1
it installed lilo on the partition 1(hda1) instead to be on the boot sector(hda).

it corrupted my fs I believe... I tried fdisk /mbr, tried to get bootsector from back ups in /boot/.
nothing worked..
gonna be easier to re install windows

Lesson:
Don't ever do /sbin/lilo -b /dev/hda1 if you have windows on hda1. It totally screw it up

thanks for the help

Hmm. Thats bad.
man lilo sez lilo -u is uninstall.
would /sbin/lilo -u /dev/hda1 do the trick? I dont know...

If it doesnt theres only one thing I can think of: either boot a windows emergency rescue disk, or boot from a dos floppy, cd to c:\windows\command do "sys c:\", that would write the windows system files back onto its partition.

If it would come to reinstalling Windows it can be installed over the previous copy while retaining ure data, but I wont bet my data on it.

Good luck.
