Yes. Just make separate partitions for it, let the first one have LILO in the MBR if there's no Windoze around, and let the 2nd one install LILO in 'ts root partition. Then add the 2nd one's root partition to the 1st one's lilo.conf. Don't forget u can share /swap.

Last stable in the kernel-2.2x series is kernel-2.2.19x.
Basically it goes like this:
-Download the kernel source from a local kernel.org mirror.
-Unpack in /usr/src/linux
-Read the /usr/src/linux/Documentation
-Read the /usr/src/linux/Documentation AGAIN and make sure you have upgraded all necessary components like modutils, gcc, pppd, and whatever it mentions.
-Configure settings, compile, install kernel, system.map and modules.
-Initialize modules, add kernel to lilo.conf
