I'm runing debian linux on a laptop and I get an error when loading my pcmcia dual "v90 modem"/"10/100 network" card.

The error is:

eth0: pcnet_reset_8309() did not complete.
pcnet_cs: unable to read hardware net address

:End error

Can someone help me with this?

1) What PCMCIA controller does your laptop have? Is is supported?
2) What card is it? Is it supported?
3) In 3.1.15 and later PCMCIA releases, the test_network script in the debug-tools subdirectory of the PCMCIA source tree will spot some common problems.
4) Is your card recognized as an ethernet card? Check the system log and make sure that cardmgr identifies the card correctly and starts up one of the network drivers. If it doesn't, your card might still be usable if it is compatible with a supported card.
5) Is the card configured properly? If you are using a supported card, and it was recognized by cardmgr, but still doesn't work, there might be an interrupt or port conflict with another device. Find out what resources the card is using (from the system log), and try excluding these in /etc/pcmcia/config.opts to force the card to use something different.

Here is the list of supported PCMCIA controllers. The NIC list is a little longer, so I won't include it

system log => /var/log/messages
I believe on Debian cardmgr writes to /var/log/daemon.log so you may want to check there also.

Exclamation pcnet and hda: lost interrupt

I am getting the same error using the 2.2.16 kernel with the same card (Linksys PCMLM56). I tried updating PCMCIA drivers to 3.1.23. The system freezes when it comes off standby (blank screen after sitting idle) and I get a "hda: lost interrupt" when I try to use the system. First I get the error "eth0: pcnet_reset_8309() did not complete." and then the system is hung. How can I change the standby setting?
