Free E-mail

For the past 3 years I have been using usa.net as my e-mail server. It was a great free non Micro$oft service, but a few days ago i learned that usa.net is going to start charging people to use their services the end of this month, I guess they ran out of money. Whats a good e-mail service I can use other than Micro$oft Hotmail and Yahoo?

Did you guys hear yet? You can goto micro$oft.com and sign up to be a beta tester, ofcourse you have to pay 10$ to beta test.

You will get a free email address @linuxquestions.net (not .org).

You don't automatically get your username from the board. You have to go to http://mail.linuxquestions.net and signup. You check your mail at that URL also.

I know this might be a bit weird but do you think that it would be possible to use an e-mail prog from my comp to read the e-mails, maybe download them?

You have to retrieve the mail using the web interface. You can configure it to check other POP accounts, though.

You can also get free email accounts from Excite.com, Netscape, and Yahoo. With Netscape, you can also use your account to use their AIM client to talk to your friends on AOL. With Yahoo, they have their own messenger also. Excite I believe has a messenger client now, but I have not tried that one.
