Question installation RH 7.1 crash

I have a problem with the installation of Red Hat 7.1.
Setting up the installation works fine, but when the copying of files starts, my computer crashes. It does start with copying files, but crashes after a 'random' time.

I have plenty of swap space(4*Ram) and everything seems to be supported. I don't seem to get any installation errors.

My system specs are:

AMD k7 thunderbird 800 MHz
asus A7V MB
196 Mb SDram
Asus geforce 2 MX
Western Digital 30 Gb.

All help is appreciated

Thanks

how did you partition your hard drive?

just as a recommendation, try installing a minimal system, and see if you can get any further doing that.

I used PQ magic 6.0 to partition my HD. 1.5 GB linux ext2 and 800 mb swap.

I tried to install the minimal install, but it still crashed before it completed.
thanks though.

Now since uve got a 30Gb, could u tell us the layout of ure HD? Also when installing there are usually multiple terminals opened for different output. U could try n switch with ALT+CTRL+number (1 to 7) to see diagnostics like progress, error messages etc. Maybe theres some errors u could jot down n post here...

jst my 2 cents.

Well, i finally installed RH 7.1. I used a minimal install, and changed the screens with ctrl+alt+F1-7. Strangely enough this seemed to get over a crash.

The only error message given was cdrom: open failed. also, during a potential crash, the cdrom stopped spinning. By switching screens he started spinning again.

A full install still isn't possible though, but doing a minimal install and upgrading is.

Anyway thanks for the help
I'm actually typing this in linux
