I have just finished installing RedHat Linux 7.1 and am trying to get my proxy settings to work for Netscape. I have set up the IP of the server in the preferences and when I try to go to a site I get prompted for authentication information. I have tried every format for the domain and user information that I could think of (domain/username, domain\username, username) to no avail. Is this setup possible? I can't turn off authentication on the proxy because we have students here who have limited access as well as developers and employees with less limited access.
I was thinking that I could set up my Win2000 machine as a second proxy with restrictions based on IP to only the linux machine. It would then have to redirect all requests to the main proxy server (with authenication of course). Is this possible and what is the best way to do it?

Have you tried username@proxy?

Authentication in MS proxy uses Domain Login Name and Password. My domain is LUX and my username is stuartg so I have tried:

//LUX/stuartg

Im afraid this and this will show why it won't work, and what the admins will have to do about it.

It's not that big a network here, and plaintext passwords are fine so I'm connected now. Thanks for your help.
