Everytime I try to install something from a tar file it craps out on me and sys "can not guess your host type you will have to specify one" what does it mean and how do I do it in Caldera open linux 2.4

What program are you trying to configure? The parameters you are passing the configure script and the output of "uname -a" would also help.

tar files

I type in tar -xvf xmms-1.2.4.tar and alot of stuf goes by then it says can't gues your host type you will have to specify one. It really doen't seem to matter which program I am trying to install though it did it with some lib stuff and pine too
