I have an ATI Radeaon 32MB Video card and installed Red Hat Linux 7.0 on my system. I typed SuperProbe to probe for my video card and typed Xconfigurator and I can't seem to locate the driver. Does anyone know where I can download the driver for this video card? I went to http://www.XFree86.com already and it doesn't have it. I would really appreciate if someone can direct me to the URL for the driver. Thank you!
I did SuperProbe and I wasn't able to probe the video card and I typed XConfigurator and it wasn't there. I new to Linux would it be possible if you can show me how to fix my problem? Thanks!
hello to Marci
I have recently installed Red Hat Linux 7.0 and a 32MB
ATI Radeon VE video card. I have been to XFree86 as well and installed
version 4.0.2 and an update 4.0.3. These still did not have drivers for my
card. If your card is not a VE then 4.0.3 might work. If anyone has gotten
back to you or you have found something concerning a Radeon VE card
let me know. ahammell@princeton.edu
You will need to do the following in order to get your ATi Radeon VE 32MB graphics card to work with your Xserver:
1. You need XFree86 4.1.0 (now available)
2. In order for XFree86 4.1.0 to work, you need the latest Linux Kernel (2.4.x; also available).
This is what I have/done, so maybe you can follow this example for help:
1. I have Red Hat 7.1 installed (includes the 2.4.4 kernel)
2. I downloaded and installed XFree86 4.1.0 (read the README/INSTALLATION notes for proper installation)
3. Shut the system down and get that DVI to CRT converter that came with your Radeon VE card (hope you didn't throw it away!).
4. Your Radeon VE card has two outputs (analog==CRT, and the digital==DVI). Stick that converter thingy on the DVI output and hook your monitor up to that. Fire up the Linux system, type in "startx" and your 'rockin.
It took me a whole freakin week just to get that little piece of information, i.e. using the DVI output instead of the CRT output. Supposedly there is a patch out there to make output on CRT as well (for a dual output). But with the above setup, everything seems to work fine anyways (of course getting 3d acceleration to work is another matter)
HOPE THIS HELPS, if any of you guys need further assistance or know info about getting the CRT output to work please email me: kjp777@hotmail.com
kjp777 is wonderful.
I've got linux redhat 7.1, xfree86 4.0.1, Ati radeon VE 32MB DDR, monitor CRT Philips 107B20.
I connected the monitor cable to DVI socket.
I reboot the machine and, miracle, all works fine.
One question: why must I connect the monitor to DVI socket if the monitor is CRT?
Hi, I have SuSe 7.2 (which has Xfree 4.0.3) and its giving me the same problem with my Radeon VE. SaX2 isn't finding the Radeon VE on the DVI port...so I'm assuming I'll need to upgrade to Xfree 4.1 in order for the DVI fix to work. In answer to mas's question, the reason why it works on the DVI instead of the CRT connection is (I don't know for sure, but I read somewhere) that the driver that comes with Xfree 4.0.3 or 4.1 only initializes the DVI port. If you feel like paying, I beleive a company has developed a driver that works, I'm not sure of the company or prices. But if anyone has gotten SuSe 7.2 w/ Xfree 4.0.3 to work please tell me.
Thanks,
