Exclamation

Ok, first of all im using a Lucent Wireless Networking Orinoco PCMCIA Card. Now I would think that there are just a bunch of problems rite there just waiting for me but everything seemed to begoing ok. The card is detected and drivers are loaded. Now heres where I run into problems....

1. The drivers are not for the Orinoco Card....they are for a version earlier called WaveLAN. These are almost identical so I thought they would work. (Im asking you guys)

2. I can't get it recognised as eth0...and get on my network with it. I tried "alias eth0 wvlan_cs" which returns:

bash: alias: 'eth0' not found
bash: alias: 'wv_lan_cs' not found

Well hopefully this makes sence to everyone. Thanks in advance for any help.

Whats /var/log/messages say?

Whats it say when you try to load the module(insmod wvlan_cs.o from its dir), is it already loaded?

If you recompiled your kernel you may not have all the pieces in place..

Have you recompiled your kernel to include wireless LAN support? I am not sure, but I don't think it is included by default. I have a wireless LAN at home, with a card based on the Lucent wv_lan (its made by Buffalotech).

I am running Redhat v7.0 with a recompiled 2.2.16 kernel. What version of Linux and kernel are you running?
