Question

Hi,

I rebuilt my p1 a few months ago with rh7. Very happy, works great, etc...
For reasons that are complex and boring, I need to reinstall win98. My plan was this, I'd uninstall rh, wipe the disk (everyhting backed up), install win and then reinstall rh so the system would be dual boot.

Problem is that I can't get rh off of the disk and when I try to run DOS fdisk after booting to floppy I get an error:
"error reading fixed disk."

Now nothing works. When I boot I get a no os error

What's a good way to wipe the hardrive so I can make a clean start?

Thanks in advance,
Andy

I frequently use a program called wipe.exe.
You can download the program at http://www.ibm.com. Use the search engine on the site to find the program.
This program almost always allows me to clean a hard drive when fdisk jsut doesnt seem to cut it.

Simply boot from a floopy, then run the wipe.exe while at DOS prompt. Once finished, then do your typcial fdisk routine and you should be fine. The wipe program itself will tell you the correct command line arguments when you try to run it.

Hope this helps.

Have you tried booting with a Linux floppy and once booted to run fdisk from there?
