Cool Compiling glibc

I am not a C programmer and a bit of a newbie at Linux, but if I was to recompile my glibc library to 386 instead of 586 or 686, how much smaller do you think it would be?
If the size change is significant, how could I recompile it?
I have redhat 7.1

Thanks for any help

Silly me

I looked at my libraries, they are already 386! I thought they would be compiled for a faster architecture then that.
oh well.
