Angry Missing Operating System

Can some please help? I tried installing Slackware Linux 7.0 on a computer I just buit that used a 10gb hard drive from an old Windows machine that needed EZ Drive to recognize the drive. On the first attempt at installing linux, the only lilo prompt I got was LIL. i figured it was the EZ Drive software that was causing the problem so I used a old Windows startup disk to do a fdisk /mbr because I couldn't find a copy of EZ Drive. I think this removed the EZ Drive software because I don't get its usually prompts. I tried to reinstall Linux again having lilo placed in the MBR but all I got was a error message saying MISSING OPERATING SYSTEM. I tried installing it again repartitioning the drive with the first 256mb as the swap partition at the start and another time at the end of the drive and make the native partition the rest of the drive. I still recieved the MISSING OS error message. i tried reinstalling again placing LILO on the root partition several times but that still gives me the same MISSING OS error message. I can boot from the floppy disk but thats all. I do not know where to proceed from here. This is something I am just learning. Linux will be the only os on this machine.

Try using your first partition as your install partition. Make it around 500 megs.

Try putting LILO in the MBR as opposed to the root partition.

If I remember right Slak 7.0 comes with the old lilo that needs the entire / partition to be under the 1024th cylinder or ~8G.Try installing again with these partitions.

/boot 10M
/ =whatever
/swap =64-128M
