Thumbs down md driver problem

I'm trying to install Debian Linux 2.1 on my machine. I am attempting to boot straight from the CD, but the boot sequence grinds to a halt with the following line:

md driver 0.36.3 MAX_MD_DEV=4, MAX_REAL=8

I cannot get it to proceed past this.

This machine has had Linux Mandrake installed up to now.

Any ideas on how to get past this would be appreciated. Thanks.
