okay, forgive me if my terminology is wrong, i'm pretty much a newby. I donwloaded the isos for 8.0a and once it's burned I go to install. I hit 'enter' to start the install, but the kernel always hangs on the step after detecting ide drives. It shows the ide's okay, but when it goes to display the amount of room on the drive it hangs. And that's in any method of install! Anything is appreciated. Thanx a ton.
okay, here's what goes on in the kernel before the hang(includes brands):
hda: WDC ac28400R, ATA Disk Drive
hdb: Creative CD5230E, ATAPI CDROM DEVICE
hdc: Creative CD-RW RW8438E, Atapi cdrom device
hdd: IBM-DCAA-34300, ATA Disk Drive
hde: Maxtor 71260 AP, ATA Disk Drive
hdf: Fujitsu m1636TAU, ATA Disk Drive
ide0 at -too lazy to put in-on irq 14
ide1 at -too lazy to put in-on irq 15
ide2 at -too lazy to put in-on irq 11
hda: WAC28400R, 8063MB w/ 512 kb cache chs=1027/255/63 UDMA(33)
hdb: IBM-DCAA-34330, 4134 MB w/ 96 kb cache CHS 8400/16/63, DMA
This is where it hangs. Hioe this helps

Question: Is all of space on your harddrives taken up by Windows partitions? You must have UNPARTITIONED space (I think) to proceed with a Linux install.
Also, it appears to list hdb as both a harddrive and a CDROM device. Also, how do you have six IDE devices? Are any of the harddrives ATA100? Are you using an add-on IDE controller card?
Well, for what it's worth, I figured it out (with a little help from webtoe.) I saw that it always hung up before testing hde. so I just took a wild guess, strapped on my grounder and pulled that ol' HDE right out! So i go to install it again, and bada-bing. it works. Oh, and toe, it was a MAXTOR. Thx for everything. I'm sure I'll be back.
