Hi Jeremy,
Some improvement is there.Now I am able to say
dig http://www.yahoo.com ,it is able to get me the IP address
resolved and it is showing me the IPaddress!.But I am still unable to ping any machine in the globe via the name.It still says ping:Unknown host.May be a ping problem?.Please help me.

Hi,
I just now got one clue.It may be due to a probem with /etc/host.conf file.
The file contains the following
order hosts,bind,nis
multi on


Is the configuration correct?
