Exclamation Mandrake 7.2......help

I installed Linux distro Mandrake 7.2 with no problems, however for some reason I cant access my cd rom. I click on the cdrom icon(on the desktop), I then receive a message saying user access denied. I can insert a music cd and play it under cdplayer but thats about it. Should I log into root to access the cdrom (i dont think so) or is there some other problem?

One more question, I am looking for a fortran(f77) complier for unix. Does anyone have a url or ftp site so i can dwl. Thanks

When I click on the cdrom icon the error message reads:
unable to enter file:/mnt/cdrom You do not have access rights to this location.
