Can anyone point me toward some decent educational material
pertaining to Linux ??..."Unleashed" seemed to lack detail on various subjects....and I don't want to spend my life and life's
savings at Barnes & Noble....I appreciate any help.
You'll probably also find more general Unix site will have some relevant details. Have a look at some of O'reillys offerings too - they're normally really good. http://www.oreilly.com
There's lots of good help online, the trouble is finding it. Of course, you probably already know this. Are you looking for help with any particular aspect of Linux? End user issues? Admin? Some specifics would be nice.
Go back to Barnes and Noble and pick up Linux for Dummies. This is a good intro book. This is a good one days reading and answers alot of basic questions and is a good intro to the terminology. Also read the post hear until you are sick of looking at it. There is alot of info here.
I disagree with you there. Linux for dummies was the first Linux book I bought. Admittedly it was the old version with 6.2 disc. I found it to be far too basic for my needs, mainly seeming concerned with connecting to the net and using netscape. Whilst it covers lots of basic stuff, it was sketchy to say the least. As I recall there is a new version which may have improved things, but I'd recommend SAMS RedHat7 unleashed (Guess it's not much use for SUSE etc though) and a reliable ISP so you can read these forums.

The best material I find is online.....
though its still good to have a hard copy book nearby... Depending on what distro your using, it might be good like drjim said to get a book pertaining to the distro your using.
