I just install RH71 with MySQL, and now I can't start it. MySQL can't find file mysql.sock somewhere in \var\... I'am lookup and do not find this file anywhere on disk...
Check mysql.com and they should have a simple socket file for you to create on your system. If not look in the help files and howtos to find one and modify for your system.
