Greetings everyone.......

I am currently running Mandrake 7.2 and trying to get NIS working on a 5 node network. Well, configuring /etc/yp.conf and /etc/nsswitch is simple enough, yet apparently it is necessary to start the ypserv program in order to get the primary server working. I have looked all throughout the system and I cannot find ypserv.

Does anyone know if this is currently called something else or am I simply not looking in the right places? I have used ksysv, looked in /etc/rc.d, /etc/rc.d/init.d, etc...

Any guidance would be appreciated.

Thanks a bunch....

Wink

i don't know about mandrake, but i use nis for all my logins on my server, and on redhat it located in /etc/init.d/ypserv
if not try using locate command.
first as root, run: locate -u /
then once its eventually finished, enter: locate ypserv.

hopefully should find it, have u installed all the nis packages as well?

As far as I can tell all of the nis packages are installed. I can acutally see ypserv in the /etc/rc.d/init.d file and ksysv. My rc5.d file has ypserv start (apparently) when the runlevel is hit, yet when I manually try to start it from ksysv, it starts as if it has been killed. Very odd. I am beginning to think the Mandrake is not very reliable when it comes to networking in general. Thinking about going with Debian or maybe even FreeBSD instead.

Thanks for the help.
