Question

Having trouble getting apt-get, dselect, etc... to work.
As near as I can tell it's because the internet proxy for our system is on another LAN than my local LAN. IE

<proxy> is on local LAN A <x.x.a.x>
<my router/gateway> is on local LAN b <x.x.b.1>
<my machine> is on local LAN b <x.x.b.69>

What I need is an way to add an static route to LAN A early enough (ie boot or /etc/init.d/networking) that I can use x.x.a.x as a default/network gateway. How can I go about doing that, or is there another solution to my problem?

Thanks,

Hi..

It is very simple

Put a static route for ur laocal lan IP pointing to ur Local gateway

for others u put a default gateway pointing to ur proxy

For example ur locl network IP is say 172.16.0.0 /255.255.0.0

Ur proxy is 172.16.50.1
Ur gateway is 172.16.60.1
Ur machine is 172.16.60.100

Then u add routes like this

route add 172.16.0.0 netmask 255.255.0.0 gw 172.16.60.1
route add default gw 172.16.50.1

Check the syntex i mau wrong

It will work
