Howdy:
I have Mandrake 7.2 installed. During the installation it recognized my video card (Asus Geforce2 MX) and all. I want to try playing some games on Linux, mainly Quake 3 and/or Soldier of Fortune. I downloaded Soldier of Fortune demo and installed it, but it runs slowly compared to SoF in Windows. The mouse pointer movement is really choppy, etc. SoF in linux uses software rendering, I tried to change this to hardware but it wouldn't let me. Quake 3 doesn't seem to run at all, it says that I require some OpenGL thingee. How do I get these games to run properly in linux? Are there specific linux drivers for my video card that I have to download?
X-windows seems to run fine for the most part. Although sometimes minimizing and maximizing windows can be a little slow, although not drastically slow. Is linux taking full advantage of my video card, or is it relying on the CPU to do a lot of the graphics work?
