Split File in Win9x and join in Linux ??

I've a internet connection at work, where I work on a win95. And a Red HAT 7.1 Linux at home.

How do I split files larger than the floppy on Windows, and transfer them to linux ??!!

I'd need a program that supports both OS. Any suggestions ?

You can use a program to split the larger files and then use the ' cat ' command to put the files back together.
Go here and enter the word ' split ' in the ' Search for ' box and then select ' Downloads ' in the following box. You'll get a list of about 24 programs.

After you split up the file and move it to the linux computer, then you use the ' cat ' command to put it back together.

Like this:

First split up large file: file1, file2, file3,...

Copy files to linux drive than cat /path/list/to/file2 >>/path/list/to/file1 then cat /path/list/to/file3 >>/path/list/to/file1. Keep doing this until all files are concantenated to file1.

Do you mean by Is there a SPLIT equivalent of that ? that is there a ' split ' command in linux? Yes, there is and it's called ' split '.

As for the cat command sequence that I gave you, I believe that it can be simplified a bit. Like this:

cat /path/list/to/file2 /path/list/to/file3 >>/path/list/to/file1

You'll want to test this first to see that it correctly reassembles the file.

When reassembling a split up linux file in windows, you also use the command ' cat ' in windows. You'll have to check on the syntax, because I don't know it.
