I m installed RH 7.0 and as PDC Samba 2.2.0
win2k prof (SP-1) from linux box I am getting the following problem.
i add lmhost and hosts file win2k_machine_name and ip address
I used the command
smbclient -L netbios_name (for win2k_machine) /
the problem i see
error returning browse list:ERRDOS-errnoaccess (Access Denied)
But i can mount from win98 pc , no problem
Are you using encrypted passwords on SAMBA? Just wondering if this could be the problem, 2k should use encrypted by default, but you may somehow have 98 and samba using unencrypted.
Jim
yes I can see networkneighbour and map's samba server from win2k
from win2k to samba pdc user login successful
only my problem in win2k machine
I use testparm no problem
I don't know anything about win2k so maybe I can't really help. I mount my win98 shares to a mount point called windozeshare which I created for this purpose. I think the command is something like....
mount -t smbfs //winclientname/sharename /mnt/windozeshare
this pops up a password prompt, but have to set passwords separately, as my logon password is 10 digits, whereas share passwords seem restricted to 8 (try putting more in as a separate windows share password and see. I usually forget this, and type full password, in which case I get a refused connection. Also can't mount stuff with spaces eg My Documents (though I saw a post about this earlier today).
Hope this is some help.
Jim
Regarding Nabils reply, I think this represents a security risk, and more importantly, the idea of tinkering with the registry fills me with dread! Only takes a few secs to get samba encrypted. Of note, I hope you've got a solid firewall, I did a test on shields up! www.grc.com with my fw deliberately off, and got a lovely list of all my shares. Networks need to be as secure as poss, as someone out there will want to play.
Jim
i dont think because ;
I install new win2k machine and I know going do from win2k encrypt passwords to samba pdc
i make in win2k Ip filtering list IP and ICMP securuty minimum
thanks Nabil ,,
hey
i think u have to activate the guest account in win2k to use the shares...
or just create a user account similar to your login in linux (u can also use the -o username=XXX option on mount [ mount \\\\SERVER\\SHARE /MOUNTPOINT -o username=foobar ]
