Guys,

I am a really newbie trying to manage a linux mail server. I was trying to restart the box but somehow the box is not starting anymore.
I got the following error message.

checking root file system
/dev/hda8 contains a file system with errors, check forced
/dev/hda8
Unattached inode 22112
/dev/hda8 UNEXPECTED INCONSISTENCEY: RUN fsck MANUALLY

And then it asks for a root password to correct the problem. I logged in with the root password and type "fsck". It looks OK but when I restart, I get the same error.

I'll appreciate any help

You say you type "fsck" do you really mean you type otherwise you will just get a message like "Parallelizing fsck version 1.18 (11-Nov-1999)" and its won't do anything - definately nothing to do with fixing your filesystem!!

I did what you said. It started working. But it just stopped again. I reboot the machine, worked for a while and stopped again.
When I boot up, I get mostly 'OK' meesages but I also get "/dev/hda8 was not cleanly mounted" message, the server does something and then says 'PASSED'.

Can these be the problem???

You shutting down the machine corectly?

OK. It was because I didn't shut down properly.
