I am wanting to keep an xconsole open on my desktop. When I open an xterm and use su to launch it, it dies. When I am logged into X as a root however everything works fine. I don't want to have to be logged in as root all the time.

This is the command I am using to start the xconsole:

xconsole -notify -nostdin -verbose -exitOnFail

If it makes a difference I am using Gnome with Sawfish as my window manager.

why do you need to use xconsole? and why open xterm to then open xconsole. if you need xconsole to have root privilages you just open it up and then type su. no need to open it from xterm or something.

You know, you could create a group association with it and give full access or have root privelages without using root. Just a suggestion though to see if that works.
