Question

I am running rh 7.1 on a laptop and using the Orinoco wireless lan card in office and have the Merlin/Ricochet for on the road work. My problem is when I do a /etc/rc.d/init.d/network stop and
/etc/rc.d/init.d/pcmcia stop

I remove the card that is in at the time and switch with the other one then do a /etc/rc.d/init.d/pcmcia start the system will totally lock. The mouse will disappear and there is no input allowed from the kbd. The only alternatives that I have are to either physically powerdown or pull the battery. As you can imagine, it is getting tiresome to go and have to fix the filesys every time. If I power the system down after stopping the net/pcmcia services and change the card....when I boot back up, it won't/can't get an ip. I then have to go and fix the config.opts and wireless.opts. This is getting rather frustrating.

any help???

Wink

It sounds like your using a DHCP server to gain your IP. Either talk to the provider and ask for a static IP. Or run a Linux gateway computer with both DHCP as well as static IP's available when you Masquerade.

If you set you computer up as a static IP you won't have the problem of getting a new IP every time you boot up.

I've also heard that Ricochette service uses a strange TCP/IP protocal that makes it difficult to configure with a VPN.
