Kicq

Hi All,
I haven't ever used icq before, but I now have a need to stay in touch with family in the states so I installed Kicq on my system (both the required lib and the clone itself). When I type kicq at the prompt I get three PID not read msgs and then I get a pop up box to put in a user name and password. All that goes ok. When I close the pop up, the usual looking icq box is there, but when I select connect/online it won't connect ( the colored bit on the flower just continues to spin). I assume that this is probably because my firewall is blocking its connection?
If this is the case, what do I need to do to allow this program to connect to the net?
Using this isn't that big a deal, but it would be nice instead of sending emails back and forth.
Thanks,
Dallam
