Any of you have installed the new kernel from SuSE (2.4.2-4GB) and got the AC97 audio to work properly. When KDE starts I can hear some grumpy audio but it doesn't work at all with applications such as XMMS. What is wrong with that driver? Or what causes the problem? Can somebody help me?

Did you select the alsa setup in yast or yast2?

Yes, I configured the card using yast2 and it found my card, but no sound when pressed the sample test button. And when I log on or off it sounds. I've tried different methods that I found on the Internet but none of them worked for me. Right now I'm trying to recompile the kernel with an updated via82cxxx.c file that I found to see what happens.

Did you enable sound in KDE? (See KDE Help/FAQ).

Thumbs up Wooho!

Strange things happened, but at last I've got my sound card to work. I updated the alsa drivers to 0.5, and configured the card with yast2 ans alsaconf and it sounds. But ironically alsaplayer gives me an error when using the alsa output plugin. But in xmms i need to change my ~/.xmms/config file in the OSS section to sound_device=1 to get sound from it. Thanks for the help.
