Setting up an FTP Server???

I was wondering what would be the best package to setup an FTP server. I was playing around with WU-FTPD but i couldnt get it to work.

Does anybody know of the easiet way of implementing FTP for Virtualhosts?

Or Can anybody Point me to some good documentation, i.e. a step by step guide to setting up a FTP Server.

I have always personally liked ncftpd. proftpd is also a popular choice.

Cheers, I went for proftpd as it boasted apache style configuration which is to my liking.

When installed it works okay with the default configuration. My only problem is that i cant get it working for a virtual host.

I subsituted all of the entries in the v-hosts example config file for my server and it goes nowhere.

however it seems quite promising so ill give it a few more hours and if no luck i'll check out ncftp!

Sulin, I am working with linux as part of my work here in London/Dublin... Im into marketing and travel so i dont know much about linux... your better off working with these guys here as they know an awful lot more than I, Good luck!

When I FTP into my machine as Rick, i start in my home directory-- /home/rick

yet i can go all the way into the root (/) directory and can see all the config files... (etc/httpd.conf)

Somebody mentioned using chroot but i dont know what that is and how to use it?

please help
