help!
my department recently had an email spamming attack..somebody send hundreds of emails to our group and lots of people got mad..anyway, my lecturer had asked me to install Majordomo on our server to shield us from such attacks...
my prob : i'm a newbie and i have no idea how majordomo actually works..anyway, ever the obedient student, i downloaded it and wrestled a bit with its configuration and all, and emerged
with 'Nothing bad found! Majordomo_should_work_correctly' message when i ran ./wrapper config-test as a user...
BUT when i tried echo lists | mail majordomo and then check my email in pine, i got this message:
Subject: Service Unavailable
----The following addresses had permanent fatal errors----
"|/usr/local/majordomo/wrapper majordomo"
(expanded from : majordomo)
----Transcript of session follows----
Message delivered to mailing list majordomo
sh : wrapper not available for sendmail programs
554 "|/usr/local/majordomo/wrapper majordomo "......Service unavailable
what does this mean?? and how can i use lists to do what my lecturer had ask me to do??
hopefully somebody would gimme a hint, or maybe some documentation...THANKS!

Sounds like you have sendmail configured to use smrsh. This restricts the programs you can pipe to.
Quote:
smrsh is a restricted shell utility that provides the ability to specify, through a configuration, an explicit list of executable programs. When used in conjunction with sendmail, smrsh effectively limits sendmail's scope of program execution to only those programs specified in smrsh's configuration.
