What are the permission levels on the file, and how exactly are you trying to remove it with what commands?

I don't know how to solve your problem but I thought that kernals before 2.4 could only handle files with a max size of around 2Gig, which would explain the crash. If you are not using the 2.4 kernal perhaps you should upgrade to gain access to the file?
