majordomo!!

help!
my department recently had an email spamming attack..somebody send hundreds of emails to our group and lots of people got mad..anyway, my lecturer had asked me to install Majordomo on our server to shield us from such attacks...

my prob : i'm a newbie and i have no idea how majordomo actually works..anyway, ever the obedient student, i downloaded it and wrestled a bit with its configuration and all, and emerged
with 'Nothing bad found! Majordomo_should_work_correctly' message when i ran ./wrapper config-test as a user...
BUT when i tried echo lists | mail majordomo and then check my email in pine, i got this message:

Subject: Service Unavailable

----The following addresses had permanent fatal errors----

"|/usr/local/majordomo/wrapper majordomo"
(expanded from : majordomo)

Message delivered to mailing list majordomo
sh : wrapper not available for sendmail programs

what does this mean?? and how can i use lists to do what my lecturer had ask me to do??
hopefully somebody would gimme a hint, or maybe some documentation...THANKS!

Whoa dude!

Majordomo is a list server, not something that will help you manage and filter spam. Don't install it, it won't help.

I have a few questions, first, what linux distro are you running, and second, do you want to prevent spam?

Answer these and I think we can get you help.

Sounds like you have sendmail configured to use smrsh. This restricts the programs you can pipe to.

You need to add a s-link to the smrsh folder in /etc/

cd /etc
ln -s /usr/local/majordomo/wrapper

or whatever the path to the wrapper file is.

Ah, folks...

GonzoJohn is right- Majordomo is mailing list manager. It will do absolutely nothing to block spam.

Where I work the Nimda worm found it's way to someones pc.. That user had the (all_employees@majordomo) in his/her addressbook.. wOOt!!
