shutting down computer w/o KVM

Hi all,

I booted my machine without a keyboard, mouse, and monitor and I can telnet into it without any problems. How do I shut this computer down properly via telnet (or any other method)?

type reboot or halt.

Hi,

I tried halt, reboot, and shutdown now and all give the following message:

_X11TransSocketINETConnect: Can't get address for my_machine name

where my_machine is the name of the machine that I am using to log into the one without mouse, keyboard, or monitor.

It then asks for a password, but none of them work???

1) logged as root use "shutdown -r now" for rebootin
or "shutdown -h now" to turn off your comp..

Are you doing a telnet conection to this machine??

I am telneting to this machine.
I tried shutdown -h now as root and it worked successfully!
