Hi peoples
I am running slackware 7.0 but dual booting w/windows, and during the install of slackware I gave myself access to the windows D: drive, name it FATD (as far as linux is concerned). This computer is running as a server whether in windows or in linux for the internet connection share and IP masq, but is there a way for me to share folders that are on that windows D: (FATD) drive to the client computer when I'm in linux?
I hope that makes sense.

Can someone please tell me if this is possible, and if so, please point me in the right direction?

Nicholas

I'm not completely sure I understand the question, but if it is a question of getting both version of the web server (Linux and Windows) to look at the same folder, I suppose you could do it with a symbolic link in Linux. Say your Windows web server's root directory is at
C:\webpages\home\www

And your Linux server's home is
/home/user1/www

And your windows partition is view from Linux as
/mnt/win_c

Then you need to make sure the /home/user1/www directory DOESN'T exist and issue the following command:

ln -s /mnt/win_c/webpages/home/ww /home/user1/www

Then both the Linux server and Windows server are looking at exactly the same folder.

Is this what you were asking?

I'm sorry, I knew that I would bungle up trying to explain my initial post, I will try to explain exactly what it is that I'm trying to do and I apologize for my first attempt.

I have a computer running as a server (2 NICS, one going to a hub for the other computer) that dual boots windows2k/slackware. there are 2 physical drives on this machine, and during the install of slackware, I named the 2nd Fat32 partition "FATD", so I have access to this drive (which is what I really like about Slackware) when I'm working in linux.

Now I have my friends computer (win98) which has access to files that I've mapped in the server computer when it's in windows, I was wondering if I can do something similar to a windows mapping of folders that are on the FATD drive, but when the server computer running in slackware.

I like to run the box in slackware during the day because I can get into it while I'm at work and get stuff done remotely, but I would still like my roomate to have access to the MP3 folder and others that are on the Fat d:\ partition.

Is this possible?
Again, thx for responding to my first (bad) version of this post.

Hello
I suggest you use SAMBA for this. It should have come with your distro.

As Jim suggested use Samba. It comes with Slack7.0.

Just edit /etc/smb.conf (or create it by renaming smb.conf.example, then edit it). Then make sure that /etc/rc.d/rc.samba is 755 and you should be fine!

cool, Samba, thank you.
That's what I was finding out also through a little research, I just wanted to know if what I was talking about was going to be possible (sharing FAT while in linux), so it looks like I can then, nice.
Thx for the replys.
