Question

As a newbie, I hope this question will not bore most of you - but I will appreciate any help!

I operate Compaq 200MMX 4GB, 88 RAM. Did the partition of my HD as : c: 2GB, d: 1 GB and left the last partition for Linux.
When I tried installing Corel Linux, it goes all fine untill after Hardware Detection (which seems to go fine), but then it prints Corel Linux Graphics and, following, I just get ate least 15 lines of: "HDD error sector..... and it keeps on with different sector numbers untill it finishes with: HDD Tray Open: kickes me out of installation and restarts booting Windows.

Tried entering manualy into Rescue option. When I enter FDISK two abnormalities show up on (p) option:
1. Partition HD3, does not end on cylinder boundary: phys (1,14,63) should be (1,239,63)
2. Both HD2 and HD5 start and end with the same nuber cylinders.

It seems that Linux has recognised all my partitions: HD1 (Dos); HD2 (Extended); HD3 (Unknown?? - perhaps Compaq partition) and HD5 (Dos).

Please help me to finally install Linux!!!!

Thanx a lot,

bobirt

I am not familiar with Corel so I dont know if it gives you the option to create your linux partitions manualy.If it does use fdisk to add hda6(/) and hda7(swap).The commands are quite simple.
m=menu
p=print partition table
n=new partition
t=type 83 for linux 82 for swap
w=write and exit
add your swap first if these new partitions are between dos and the Compaq Bios and then use the remaining for linux.
Your swap should be about 64M.If this is too much,get a copy of Mandrake 7.1 or 7.2,it's quite easy to setup.
