Kernel Panic

I am having a compiling problem.

I downloaded a 2.2.17 kernel, and compiled it. But when I boot into it, I get a kernel panic.

Why would I be getting that.

My system is a 2.4 configured system with ReiserFS installed. Does this kernel not support it?

What exactly is the panic? Post the error message if you can...

The later part of the 2.2 tree does support ReiserFS but you will need to explicitly enable it, and you will need to choose the "prompt for incomplete of experimental drivers" option to be able to see it. If the panic is about not being able to find the root file system or 'VFS: <some panic>' then it looks like this is your problem.

HTH

Jamie...
