Question


i am running a tripl-boot on mt sysytem ive got wins98 and wins2000(NT) and also red hat linux i would like to uninstall be cause i have forgotting my password and root pasword.
so please can u tell me how can i uninstall re hat linux?

Just delete the partitions that RH was on.

or try this....

You don't have to get rid of RedHat just because you forgot your root password.
When Lilo comes up, type Linux 1 to start linux in runlevel 1, this will put you in single user mode without prompting for a password. From there you can type in passwd root, it will then ask you to change your password.

i tried what u told me it came up as bash# i typed in passwd root then changed passwd then bash# came again and i typed exit.
when i go back to linux ligin it tells me login which i forgot the password which i know.
how can i get a new login i have no saved work on red hat linux so i cab be come a new login but how.

Try this then

I don't know why it wouldn't take the new password, possibly the passwd file is corrupt or wrong in some way. Try manually editing the /etc/passwd file, after you typed exit, or at the bash shell, you should just go ahead and reboot the machine. It did say it successfully changed the password right?

Red face login

yes it did say password change successfully bit i dont have a login i forgot how do i set up a new user login because it come up with oktay login: which id dont know oktay is my name then password which: ican change.
please help me create a new user not password.

At the prompt # adduser newuser
then make a password for newuser # passwd newuser
it will then make a prompt for you to make the password and then verify it.

Hope this helps you any.

If that doesn't work though, you can manually add in the /etc/passwd file.
