processes are scheduled with a programme called cron ( in most distros)
for more info try man cron or man crontab, or crontab --help.
It's rather easy to understand.
If you want to see how does your memory look right now you might want to try top - this will show all current processes or and current memory usage. In graphical mode ( KDE ) you can acquire more visible info using kpm.
