O.K.

2 major issues I am currently having in my jump into the open source world. Right now we'll focus on what seems to be the biggest one. Also, as a preface...RTFM...I already have...over and over.

I currently have redhat 7 installed on my compaq presario 1200 laptop. I've been running it in command line for about 2 months, just wandering around and learning what i can. however, id REALLY like a gui and apparently the x server hates me and/or my computer.

I pick the proper video card (trident cyberblade) and what i assume to be the proper monitor (ive tried every compaq laptop monitor option) and no luck.

A friend recommended to do the custom monitor setup but neither in my laptop manual or anywhere online can i find the sync rates.

any help?

Question

which version of xfree86 are you using? xfree86.org claims they have better support for the cyberblade in version 4.0.3. you might want to check redhat for an upgrade RPM.
