please suggest me a good NIC

Hi,
After 2 weeks of struggling with my DLink 530 TX+ card, I have decided to retrun the damn network card and exchange it for something that wud work with my RH7.0 without any/much tweaking.
I heard that 3Com cards are good but they have so many 'varieties'. Can anyone suggest me a good NIC for my eth1? FYI, my eth0 uses net2-pck module and it runs great. What wud be a good choice for my NIC???

Well, I have had no problems with my Linksys 100TNX except for Redhat 7.0. Hehe, figures, go with 3com. They seem to very well under Linux.

I agree with trickykid. Go with 3COM. It's the safest bet. Although there are many different model numbers, there really aren't that many truly different cards. They just tend to renumber newer versions of the same card, so the number of different drivers is much smaller than the number of cards. I've never yet found a 3COM card that did not work correctly under Linux.

The Intel EtherExpress Pro's seem a reasonably popular option too. I've used them in the past with the same easy as the 3Coms.

The first thing you should do is check Redhat's Hardware Compatibility List (http://hardware.redhat.com/hcl/genpage2.cgi). They list all Redhat qualified hardware on a multi-tier basis. It could save you a lot of headaches.

In general though, 3Com does seem to be the most supported.

I picked up a stack of 3Com 3c905's on ebay at a nice price. I'm really happy with 'em. Same goes for the 905-B TX series. I've got a couple of Intel Pro 100's (new) that are doing nicely also. Realtek's are OK but can be fussy in multi-nic installs, specially with ne2000 pci kards. Just my 2 cents.

3COM it is! It's a 3C590 series and as soon as I plugged in the card, kudzu popped up and got it configured. Everything went cool and I have both my interfaces up. Perfect! Thanks for all your suggestions and the next time I buy or suggest someone a NIC, I know what it should be. Thanks again, to all your valuable suggestions.
