Hey Guys/Gals,
Here is to hoping someone can help me. I am having install problems, most due to my own ineptitude but some on the technical side as well.
My system: Gigabyte GA-7ZX (via KT133 cset)
AMD Duron (700mhz)
Geforce2 MX 32mb
256mb Generic PC133
20 gig udma66 maxtor on chain one.
10 gig udma33 samsung on chain two. (slave)
Phillips CDR800 on chain two (master)
Software: Windows Millenium on one DOS/FAT32 partition
on the C: drive (hda), NTFS windows 2k on the
slave drive- gave 7gigs to win2k and made
2.2 gigs ext2 and the rest as linux swap.
I am trying to install RedHat linux 7.0, it doesnt have
drivers for my Gforce2 (Ill get to that next), so I opt for text base install, I choose custom... it found hdd1 and hdd 2 for my linux/linux swap, I made mounted root to hdd1, didnt install X windows, setup went fine, but post install gave me error messages that i couldnt decipher (they were jarbled in different areas of the screen) probly something to do with my partition setup.
I go get the NVIDIA experimental drivers downloaded two things one was a NVIDIAGXL and the other was the NVIDIA kernel ( I think they are rpms), Tried install again, this time I choose custom setup and it asked me if I had a Device Driver, I choose yes and inserted the floppy with the two files for the card.. It said that that wasnt the Device Disk that it wanted. Come to find out that I need X86 4.1.2 or something like that but RH7 only comes with 4.0.1.1 so i would have to update that before i could install drivers (which im not sure how to do either). Bottom line is I need assistance please, If someone is willing to help free of charge or wants compensation I am fine with that.I scratched the ext2 partitions and made NTFS whole again, but will partition it again if i can figure out the right way to do it so linux will install proper.
If you want to contact me personally my icq number is 86339149. I want to learn Unix / Linux to better myself, in the meantime Ill continue to read all the How-Tos.
Thanks in advance for those that decide to help me.
PS- I installed Lilo to root because I didnt want it to overwrite NTBootloader on the C: drive, if that means anything.
