Question Linux for Astronomy

Does anyone know of any compatibility issues between Mandrake PowerPack v8 and Linux for Astronomy? I'm taking astrophysics classes and will use LfA. I was about to purchase Mandrake v8 and install on a second 20Gb hard drive figuring I could install LfA then and have a fully compatible system. Any suggestions or comments?
