Hello there
Your post caught my eye, so I thought I would say my two cents worth.
I have not been using Linux all that long really, but I wanted to use it on it's own, without having to use Windows at all.
I quickly learned that unless I was willing to forgo some of the tasks that I take for granted in Windows, that windows (for me at least) is a necessary evil.
For example, I'm in the first part of an IT course at the moment, and the subject?? you guessed it, Microsoft packages.
So duel booting became the norm, but I began to wonder if it was really worth swaping between the two systems, to boot into Linux, and then realise that I had some work to do that requires Windows.
My answer was to bribe an old 486 from my daughter(poor girl) and install Linux on that machine, as I'm not really interested in the GUI too much at the moment.
Nowadays I just boot the Windows comp, and when I want to play with linux, I telnet into the Linux box and have some fun.
But to cut a long rave short,(IN MY CASE) I honestly dont think that Linux can perform every task I need to carry out on a comp at the moment.
Which do I like using more?? Welllllllllllll, I have Telnet running a lot of the time.

When moving from Windows to Linux you have to remember one thing, that you have probably been using Windows for the whole of your life so far and that you definately be accustomed to using a computer the "windows way". Linux, for me, has all that I need to get along but for others there will always be some applications which have not made the jump to Linux. I talk about applications (i.e. programs), because I feel that the next kernel release will enable you to access any piece of Hardware (I know, apart from the winmodems ).

Linux can be everything that you need apart from, at the moment, easy to learn because of the whole world being brought up with Mr Gate's software.

Linux likes to be different from Windoze in many ways, but especially in the way which this thread is about: free software.

To get at this you need to go and visit sites such as http://www.freshmeat.net or http://www.linux.org where you will be able to search for programs for Linux and download them. Try also the website of your distribution, such as Suse or Redhat. That is where you will find out about what is going on. For the latest kernel goto http://www.kernel.org

There are loads more, more than I know (alright, not many!)
but if you look, you will see.

Wasn't it a 'bit' drastic to lose windows? Good for you if you did though!
