Does anybody know if there exists something like a "protable serial terminal", to connect to a unix/linux computer? It woult be very usefull when debugging applications that use the screen intensive, and you don't want to have two PC's on your desk. It would be also usefull to boot and maintain computers that have not keyboard and screen (file/www/dns servers, firewalls etc.). Of course I can use a laptop with a RS-232 port and a terminal-umulator, but those machines are very heavy and expensive and they drain battery-power. (I don't need 8 Gb, 600MHz and 128Mb to control a 80x24 screen ). In the 80's they made small computers with a decent keyboard and less than 64kb internal memory, no extenal memory, there were cells inside to hold the data in the memory. Like ollivetti's M10 and the Tandy 200. They used to run on four penlites for hours and hours. They would be perfect for this purpose. Does anybody know if such kind of systems are still produced?

The best I can think of is a little hand computer .. like psion .. or hp jonada .. or if you like palm better .. a palm with their extra keyboard --

I would use the psion .. it's not so expensive and have a verry nice keyboard ..

I have used my Palm V for this before. I do not have the keyboard though, so any serious typing would be out of the question. The Psion is also very nice as Glenn said. You could also consider something like a Toshiba Liberetto, which is about halfway inbetween a Psion and a laptop.
