I have 3 computers(many more if I slapped them back together)and I have
installed linux on all of them with varying degrees of success .The first
was a PII system from gateway:I installed MDK 7.1 on it and its still
installed there and working fine.
The other 2 comps I built myself and after running win98,winnt wkstn &
server, and Win2k pro on them(I dont multi-boot;I use mobile hdd racks and
trays)I decided to try out Linux. The basic setups are like this:
Comp#1:
PIII 600 100fsb
Epox 6vba2 w/Via Apollo133 chipset
256MB Crucial sdram(pc133)
CTX 17"
PlexWriter 8432
Creative 52x
ls-120
Xpert2k 32MB agp
Supra express modem

Comp#2:
pIII 667 coppermine
Asus p3v4x
128MB Crucial sdram(pc133)
Proview 15"
PlexWriter 8432
Xpert2k 32MB agp
Ensoniq pci sound card
Actiontec int.hrdwre modem
Comp#1 has MDK 7.2 running as I type and seems to be working fine.I
installed RH 7 on it first but there were so many things I didnt like about
it,I formatted it and installed MDK.
On Comp#2 I 1st tried RH 7 and it installed using the old graphic mode but
I couldnt get X to work so I frmtd it and tried MDK-it installed but no X
either.I think there is an issue here with the 15" monitor as both distros
of Linux installed fine on the other computer.I'm sure there is a
work-around for this but I wont pursue it as comp#2 is a testbed more than
anything else and I was going to keep windows98 on it anyway.
I just thought someone else might like to know the problems you might face
getting X to work with this monitor.
