Hi, new to the linux game, and I've just installed RH 6.2 and am dual booting into it

X is coming up relatively well, but the screen resolution is all to pot (I've got the try Ctrl-Alt+/- and tinkering with xconfigurator) but the more irritating problem is the fact that screen size seems "wrong" (for want of a better phrase)

When I maximise a window, the width is generally ok, but up to a quarter of box drops off the bottom of the screen, which makes accessing buttons,or seeing all of a window at the same time hard.

I'm using a 8mb S3 Trio3D video card, and an LG Logix monitor (if anyone has further details about the monitor it would be useful, as it isn't listed in the monitor types on install, and has a variable refresh rate - possibly the cause of the problem)

Any ideas as to how to fix this ??

Question

What size is your resolution set at the given moment? Have you tried the maximun and minimum reslution's your card and monitor can handle. If so, does it do it on any resolution set?

The monitor looks like it's running at 640x480, and it has run at 1024x768 under Windows. I'm not sure where I'd find out what res exactly it's running at, as I can't seem to find xconfigurator..... any othr ideas ?

Ok managed to find xconfigurator, and I've upped the resolution to 1024x768, so things fit on the screen properly now, but I the course of the changes I'e lost the mouse pointer. Well more exactly I used to have a pointer, I now have a white square, how do I go about fixing this ?
