error on append line in lilo.conf

sorry guys, trying not to dog this question but, I added the line in lilo.conf regarding the memory (192MB) exactly as shown ... append = "mem=192" ... and when I ran the lilo command, response was " syntax error " on append line.
just about ready to give up and settle for the 64MB max. and move on to bigger linux issues.

As far as I know, it should be like this:

append="mem=192MB" with no spaces. I think. Give that a shot.

sgotta should work, adding k or M is actually arbitrary.
if ure unsure run lilo with the -t (test) plus -v (verbose) options and itll do the diagnostics on ure syntax without writing. dont forget to execute lilo when u think its ok.

I knew mine looked funny with the B after M.

But i always used no spaces, but does it matter or not?

Tricky, spaces dont matter, except -within- the append values, like:
append = "root=/dev/hdc2 -b nosmp noapic"

*Btw, it would be most excellent to -check- ure answers if unsure -before- posting. In this case it dont matter that much but we can all agree using wrong options with a command can have disastrous results in Linux.

I didn't think spaces mattered or not. I just never seen spaces used in the lilo.conf between = or whatever.

All memory like DRAM, EDO and SDRAM can be used with Linux. Be aware that older kernels or kernels running on a mortherboard with an older BIOS may only be able to detect 64MB of RAM. If you have this problem, when you add more than 64 Mb of memory you have to add the following line to your LILO configuration file:

append="mem=<number of Mb>M"

So when you have 96 MB of memory this should become
append="mem=96M"

Don't use a number higher than the amount of RAM you really have. This will cause crashes.

That should explain why sometimes it doesn't detect all of yoru RAM installed with Linux.
