All,

I have used RH6.2, 7 and now 7.1. Im am still a newbie by far but I know my way a little. Anyway, I cant find linuxconf in RH 7.1 or userconf. Im sure they are in there, do i need to go to a specific dir or do i need to install something special. Thanks

Did you perform a search or find for them?
Maybe it wasn't installed on the initial install. I am not familiar with 7.1 but check on your dics for them, if they are there, you can install them from there I am sure.
Might want to check out http://www.redhat.com and see if they made any changes that would do this.

ooops, you posted twice the same question. don't do that, this is being answered in the General forum.

I too had this question. But why on earth would RH NOT install linuxconf by default? It makes no sense....

If you have it installed, you need to run it from the sbin. Try navigating to the sbin (as root), and type /sbin/linuxconf

Even if I'm in the sbin, I still need to add it to the command line.

Hope this helps!

Why no linuxconf in RH 7.1

Hi all:

I asked myself the same question - a colleague told me that linuxconf runs unsecure on port 98 and that might be why it was removed.

Not sure if that is true, but :-( to RH for not giving a user the option.

as much as i heard or know, linuxconf is not recommended by open source affiliates or whatever, i think due to the lack of dependability, security and what not else. i personally don't use it and would rather edit by hand.

Linuxconf has been deprecated as of RH 7.0, from now on it is not used in RH, unless you install it on your own.
